What is the current state of Molokai's drug problem?

Politicians like Linda Lingle often point to drug abuse as an indicator of a stagnant economy. Molokai has one of the highest unemployment rates in the state and indeed our local drug problem has been pointed out on a regular basis. But what is the current state of Molokai's drug problem? How many people are on drugs and what kind of drugs are they on? If you have a drug story to tell, please refrain from using proper names.

Economy booster for Moloka 'i

Might I suggest vanilla cultivation and processing coops? There are grants availible for agricultural startups. Here: http://www2.ctahr.hawaii.edu/adap2/information/ADAPintro.htm is a website that deals with agriculture and communities specifically addressing the needs and concerns of the Pacific cultures. It has a link to fiscal resources for agriculture development specifically tailored to communities of which your is the exact description.

The demand for non-synthetic vanilla and cured vanilla beans in the ever-expanding market of gourmet cooking and organic products is creating a niche for Hawaii, specifically Moloka 'i to grab ahold of. People on the mainland fall over themselves for Hawaiian products as it is.

Growing vanilla is a slow-paced and patient endeavor that pays well when the vines become established. This meshes well with the locals' wishes to stay low-key in their enterprises.

The plants are unique and perfectly adapted to the Hawaiian climate. Moreover, the like to trail underneath a sparse canopy of tree cover. Since macadamia trees are an established fact on Moloka 'i, it would be well worth considering companion planting with low-trellised vanilla vines. It's kindof a no-brainer really.

This would creat a whole new economy where the locals could find not only income, but satisfaction and pride in providing the world with a useful and quality product that I know Moloka 'i could produce with an introduction and application/dedication with respect to vanilla bean culture.
